Māori Horticulture Council Celebrates Record Export Growth
Tāngata Huawhenua is celebrating a new milestone for Aotearoa’s horticulture sector, with export earnings hitting a record $8.5 billion. The figures confirm the strength and resilience of the industry — and the growing opportunity for Māori to lead its next evolution.
Export Highlights
- Kiwifruit: $3.9 billion
- Apples and pears: $1.1 billion
- Vegetables: $770 million (an 8% year-on-year increase)
These results reflect a dynamic and premium horticulture sector, well-positioned on the global stage.
A Māori-Led Future
Council Chair Rātahi Cross says the numbers validate what Māori landowners, whānau businesses, and iwi investors have known all along:
“Horticulture is a high-growth opportunity for Māori. With the right support and collaboration, we have the scale, the whenua, and the values to help drive the next generation of Aotearoa’s food story.”
Tāngata Huawhenua continues to call for investment in capability building, infrastructure, and Māori-led initiatives to unlock even greater potential.
